Every skewer starts the day before with our family marinade — a blend that's stayed in the kitchen, more or less unchanged, since the first cart. Chicken, beef and lamb each get their own paste.

They're hand-skewered, then grilled over charcoal the morning of your event so they arrive smoky, juicy and ready to serve, with our signature peanut sauce, cucumber and onions on the side.

A family
recipe, scaled.

Sugi Satay began with a marinade passed between generations — a Malaysian-Indonesian satay recipe that, for years, only ever fed family and friends.

People kept asking. Could we cater their daughter's eighteenth? The office Christmas lunch? A wedding? So in 2014 we set up properly in Burwood, kept the recipe, and started turning out skewers by the hundred.

A decade on, we cater birthdays, weddings, corporate lunches and family BBQs across Melbourne — still cooking the same satay the same way, on charcoal, the morning of your event.
